RAJA AMPAT : The Last Paradise On Earth

Raja Ampat is well know as The Last Paradise Island located in West Papua “ The World’s Second Largest Island in the world and has become one of the best marine biodiversity  on this planet and not only that, Raja Ampat also well known for its breathtaking nature, carts & lagoons, crystal clear waters, and iconic island landscapes. One of its most famous and the top Raja Ampat’s iconic spot is Wayag, where Wayag is known for its stunning karst formations and panoramic viewpoints, remote island with rich underwater biodiversity, including feeding shraks point that makes every adventure lovers never regrets to come back. Sadly, we would like to inform you that Wayag is currently closed for visitors and even for uncertain period.

Is Wayag Island Closed ?

Wayag is closed by Land Right Communities called Pemilik Hak Ulayat regarding the controversive arguments by local pro ( customary land rights ) and contra ( Tourism Activists ) about allowance the Nikel mining Company to be operated or stopped and finally decision took place that the Nikel Mining has proposed and accepted to be closed by the central authority. And this situation, increased a tension and mobilation especially to customary land rights to close Wayag for tourists ( Tourism ) and finally it was closed.

Recently, some representatives of the Pemilik hak ulayat (customary land rights) communities have expressed their intention to reopen access to Pulau Wayag for tourists and ensuring benefits for local communities. However, Wayag is not officially open yet to tourism. We are still waiting for a formal confirmation from the authorities and will share the updated news about Wayag  as soon as access is officially reopened.

We understand this may be disappointing, especially for travelers who were looking forward to visiting Wayag.

For safety and respect indigenous land rights concerns, to visit Wayag is temporarily being redirected to alternative destinations near by or beyond.

According to recent updated reports, the demonstrations and blockades have been organized in the Wayag area by land customary rights or Pemilik Hak Ulayat “  “the indigenous Kawe tribe. These actions are in response to growing concerns about potential Nikel mining activities in the Raja Ampat region.

Out of respect for the local communities and based on recommendations from local authorities, all tourism activities to Wayag are currently postponded until further official notice.

For these reasons, Wayag is closed for unpredictable periods!

The answer is Yes. Some parts of Raja Ampat remains open and safe to explore around. There are still countless stunning destinations where you can experience the untouched beauty, vibrant marine life, Beaches & Landscapes and rich culture of the region.

Here are some alternative destinations in Raja Ampat you can visit and explore : Misool, Piaynemo, Star Lagoon, Yeben, Arborek, Fam Island, Kri & Mansuar, Batanta, Misool, Blue River, Friwen Wall and many more.
